Enable the extension in Safari

  1. Open AI Chat Exporter from Applications.
  2. Click Open Safari Settings in the app. In Extensions, select the checkbox beside AI Chat Exporter. Keep the app open; its enabled status updates when you return.
  3. Use Open ChatGPT, Open Claude, or Open Gemini in the app to open your site in Safari. Sign in to that provider if needed. No separate AI Chat Exporter account is required.
  4. Click AI Chat Exporter in Safari's toolbar and choose Always Allow for that website. Repeat for each chat site you use. Enabling the extension alone does not grant website access.

Safari asks for website access so the extension can read the conversation and create your PDF on your Mac. You do not need to enable developer options or grant Accessibility, Screen Recording, or Full Disk Access.

Export button missing?

  1. Open Safari Settings > Extensions and confirm AI Chat Exporter is enabled. If Safari uses the older name, open Preferences instead of Settings.
  2. Select AI Chat Exporter, click Edit Websites, and set the affected chat site to Allow, not Ask or Deny. On older Safari versions, find the extension under Preferences > Websites. Open the chat site first if it is not listed.
  3. Open a conversation with at least one assistant response. If it was open before you granted access, save any unsent draft before reloading the page.

In a Safari profile, enable AI Chat Exporter for that profile under Safari Settings > Profiles > Extensions. Private windows also need Allow in Private Browsing in extension settings. These are only needed when using those browsing modes.

You can change or revoke website access in Safari settings at any time. Choosing a temporary permission means Safari will ask again after it expires.

Export a conversation

  1. Open an existing ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini conversation.
  2. Select the export button beside an assistant response.
  3. Choose one response, recent responses, or the full chat.
  4. Open the downloaded PDF in Preview.

Safari Pro includes unlimited PDF exports plus ongoing compatibility updates for supported AI chat sites. Purchase or restore it in the containing AI Chat Exporter Mac app. Apple manages billing and renewals. Manage or cancel a subscription in App Store subscription settings.
